Happy Halloween 👻🎃
Happy Halloween!
The last day of October is finally here and soon the streets will be filled with people in costume and carrying bags of candy.
For a lot of kids I meet, Halloween is one of their favorite days of the year. It’s the only night that is filled with endless treats and fun! What makes Halloween even better is having some good spooky books by your bedside to read.
Serafina and the Black Cloak:
“It was true that she was a creature of the night. But she would decide for herself what that meant. She had two choices before her: to slink away and hide, or to dare to fight.”
Written by Robert Beatty, this book is fantastic for Halloween! Filled with an action-packed plot and spooky vibes, I love this novel.
Serafina has always lived in the basement of the Baltimore estate with her father. However, when the children of the estate slowly begin disappearing, Serafina is positive that the person behind it is the man in the black cloak.
Content/trigger warning- Abducted children, violence.
The Bad Beginning:
Penned by legendary writer Lemony Snicket, this is one of my favorite middle grade novels and is the beginning to the series of books A Series of Unfortunate Events. While it’s not a fantasy book, the dark tones and gloominess of the narrator indicate a sort of Halloween-ish feeling.
The adventures of the Baudelaire children are ones that you will be unable to put down due to the constant action and frequent disasters forced upon them. After the loss of their parents, they are forced to move from guardian to guardian and somehow disaster always seems to follow them.
The dark humor and engaging storytelling make this book an enjoyable read and no matter how many times I read it, the story always feels fresh and exciting!
Content/trigger warning: Death, grief, emotional and physical child abuse, attempted child marriage.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone:
This book is perhaps one of the most famous series ever written. Loved by both children and adults alike, the tales of Harry, Ron and Hermione at Hogwarts never get old! Filled with giants, witches, magic and many other magical creatures, the book is so packed with action and twists that this just might be the book that keeps you up all night.
Harry lives with his aunt, uncle, and cousin. None of them have ever been good to him. Forced to live in the room under the stairs, Harry is often gloomy and lonely, but his life is forever changed when his receives a letter from Hogwarts, a school of magic!
The books are so famous that they are an absolute must-read for any booklover!
All three of these are fantastic for Halloween! I hope you found your next book!
