These two picture books are delightful to read during the winter. Both tell the story of ‘visitors’ who come visit a cottage by the lake- but only while the humans have gone! This pleasant family of bears get to spend a unique vacation in a beautiful spot.
Filled with full-page captivating illustrations, each page is so highly detailed, and it was greatly enjoyable to see the images of the activities and mishaps of the bear family.
The Winter Visitors and The Christmas Visitors are written as well as illustrated by talented author Karel Hayes.
The Winter Visitors, as the inside cover states, is a “retelling of the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears- in reverse!” In this book, we follow the adventures of the animals that visit an empty vacation home while it is unoccupied. I am positive that this book would be a favorite in any child’s personal library.
Similarly, in The Christmas Visitors, it is Christmas at the cottage. The bears again have taken the house and made it their own since it was empty. Although, the residents of the vacation home are not exactly having the time of their life in a busy city. However, when they eventually decide to spend the holidays by the lake, the bears are sure to satisfy not only themselves, but the human family too, with a beautiful holiday to enjoy just for themselves.
I love both of these books. Their charming illustrations and one-of-a-kind stories are delightful to read again and again and never get bored of. As for the bear family- I fell in love with them from the start.
I can’t thank Globe Pequot Publishing enough for supporting my reviewing journey and my blog this year!
