The True Story of a Dancer’s Dream

The True Story of a Dancer’s Dream

Thank you to Charlesbridge for giving me the opportunity to review this beautiful children’s picture book!

At the Bookish Queen, I love picture books and try to prioritize reading and reviewing them! Picture books are so often missed, and the beauty and magic they bring is one of a kind.

I requested this book from the publisher back in December because as soon as I saw that it was going to be published in the new year, I knew right away that I wanted to feature it on my blog.

Remember Her Name! Debbie Allen’s Rise to Fame is a one-of-a-kind inspirational and motivational picture book for kids. The best part? It’s a true story. I had never heard of Debbie Allen, but her story was unique and inspiring and I’m so glad I got to read it!

Written by Tami Charles and illustrated by Meredith Lucius, the now world-famous dancer was once living in the segregated south where it was impossible for her to dance because of the color of her skin.

However, things changed when she moved to Mexico City, and it became a possiblity that her dream to dance would come true.

The pictures are stunning and each page brings new colors and imagery.

Illustrations are my favorite part of picture books. You’re never too old to enjoy them!

This book is a perfect gift for a young girl; not just the aspiring ballerina, but for all of the young girls with big hopes and dreams.

Remember Her Name is definitely a picture book I will be reading again and again!

Thank you again to Charlesbridge!
