Building blocks of compassion for young readers: Shepherds and Kings

Building blocks of compassion for young readers: Shepherds and Kings

Thank you to Christina for my very own copy of this book! I fell in love with your writing style from the first page and am so honored to feature it on my blog.

Hello everyone!

So, Christmas was months ago. However- how would you like to get back into the Christmas spirit and celebrate the holidays all over again?

I certainly would.

With today’s book feature, Shepherds and Kings brings the joy, laughter, and Christmas cheer back, except this time we’re close to summer! How fun is that?

I was so honored to be able to review Shepherds and Kings by Christina Minoli. The simplicity and sweetness of her writing style made it all the more joyful to read. The end brought tears to my eyes- but no spoilers!

At the beginning of the story, we meet Ishan. A young boy who is not what we might expect. Ishan is constantly getting into fights with his peers, often leaving them frightened of him. His reputation at school is not a good one, and everyone knows it.

And still, he is supposed to play the important role of a king in the nativity play.

Until…

The drama teacher flips everything. Ishan and the school outcast Anton are assigned to work with one another. Even though the two are not on good terms.

This story is super short, and packs a lot into its pages! Its fast-moving plot kept me engaged and the writing left me wanting more at the end of the story.

Shepherds and Kings is a book I would recommend to elementary school students year-round! No matter that it’s not Christmas, this story is perfect in all seasons of the year.

I have to give this book five stars.
