Happy October!

Today gives us a little over a week until Halloween. I enjoy having a seasonal TBR pile, so I figured it would be fun to give a few great recommendations for this Halloween/fall season.

Whether you’re a loyal fan of horror, just craving something with slightly spooky vibes, or would love something for your kids that is both fun and entertaining, I have some amazing options.

Kids Halloween/Fall picture books

Kids adore Halloween, but it’s difficult to find the line between something too scary, and something with just the right amount of spooky.

If you look at my blog post (below) from last year’s Halloween season, you can learn about these three picture books perfect for young readers!

  1. Room On the Broom buy now
  2. The Deep Dark Wood buy now
  3. The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything buy now

Spooky, not too spooky! (For middle schoolers)

  1. Coraline Buy now

I personally do not love many spooky stories so Coraline was not my favorite, but I can see how a young middle schooler would find Coraline and her strange new family that wants her to stay, intriguing.

2. The Graveyard Book Buy now

To find out more about this book, read last year’s post!

Spooky Fun for Middle Schoolers – The Bookish Queen

3. The Night Gardener Buy now

Listed as a middle grade gothic horror novel, I actually did love this book. The story is fast-paced and engaging, and to me, seemed more mysterious than scary. It’s an intriguing tale of two siblings who find work at the Windsor estate, but the job soon proves to be more terrifying than they had assumed. Don’t miss it!

Classic horror for adults

  1. Frankenstein Buy now

Frankenstein is one of my favorite classics, and I reread it every year during Halloween time. It’s the story of a creature, whom people sought to kill and destroy, despite his intentions. Read my full review at the link below.

2. Dracula Buy now

Everyone knows Dracula from movie interpretations, or perhaps even book retellings. But have you read the original story by Bram Stoker?

The story of the vampire Count Dracula will send shivers down your spine, and give you chills, yet still leave you longing for more. Make this your next read! Perhaps one of the most famous books in the genre horror, it will leave you deliciously thrilled.
