Anticipating the Ella Enchanted TV Series: What I Hope For
Book lovers-
I have some news that I am so excited to share with you!
Many of you may be familiar with the book Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine and I even posted about it on a previous date which you can find at this link: Ella Enchanted: A Story of Magic and Inspiration – The Bookish Queen
If you have read the book, you might also be aware that a movie was filmed in the early 2000s starring Anne Hathaway. I already had low expectations for it as the book was just so incredibly magical and movies somehow never manage to capture that thrill. However- it did not meet my expectations. It was cheesy and somehow seemed like the directors were making fun of the book I love so much.
BUT
I just found out that an Ella Enchanted TV series is in the works! Guess who is producing it? Anne Hathaway is the producer, the previous star of the movie.
Here’s what I hope that this series will accomplish.
Number one: The steady humor yet keeping the emotional intensity behind it. Some of my least favorite parts of the movie were the constant cheesy jokes being cracked that only seemed to take away from the storyline. The book was so hilariously and deliciously funny and Ella was such a fun character! The movie in my opinion did not do any justice to the book.
Number two: Please stick to the storyline! Many television adaptations drift further and further away from the original story, but Ella Enchanted is just so good. Please honor the original story by keeping the plot!
Number three: I sincerely hope they cast actresses as Olive and Hattie that can pull off the obnoxious over the top characters without coming off as weird. I hope they genuinely compliment Ella by the remarkably large contrast between the characters! Hattie and Olive were meant to be obnoxixous and loud. I really really hope actresses that can do them justice are cast!
I can’t wait for this series 💖
